STEPS SHOWCASES THE BEST OF SPAIN
Over 1,700 travel trade professionals escaped election fever for a few hours last week by coming to STEPS - the Spanish Tourism Exchange for Professionals. The event, organised by TURESPAA through the Spanish Tourist office in London, took place at the Royal Horticultural Halls on 6 and 7 June and was the first ever trade show dedicated entirely to Spain.
STEPS was officially opened by Juan Costa, Secretary of State for Commerce and Tourism in Spain.
Promotion Boards from all the Spanish Regions, including some from the major towns and cities, were present at the event. Other exhibitors included the Convention Bureaux from all over Spain and a large number of private companies, including hotels, sports federations, theme parks, conference & incentive and travel agencies.
Presentations by Promotion Boards including Huelva, the Balearic Islands, a special presentation on Terra Mtica by the Community of Valencia and a presentation exclusively for AITO by the community of Madrid, attracted a great deal of interest and two evening events, hosted by the Community of Valencia followed by the Balearic Islands, were also hailed a success.

Manuel Butler, Director of the Spanish Tourist Office, commented: "The success of STEPS is clear recognition of the important relationship between Spain and the UK. It has been an excellent opportunity for professionals from throughout both the UK and Spanish tourism industries to learn more about the country, meet each other and make contacts.
He continued, "Uniting several British tourism bodies under one roof, such as AITO, NAITA, CARTA and ARTAC Worldchoice, was also important in demonstrating how strong the Spanish market is in the UK and how keen we are to work at developing this partnership further".
